Jay

Jay grew up in Tampa, Florida where he originally studied classical guitar before picking up the bass in high school with garage band All In A Day. But once he started playing the bass, he never looked back. Although he played with several bands, most of his experience was with his local church’s worship team.

In 2007, Jay moved with his family to the Nashville area and immediately dove into the music scene.  The next few years saw him playing with Forever Abbey Road, 90’s tribute band Hackey Sacks, 50’s tribute Good Rockin’ Tonight, Irish group Johnny Jameson and the Empty Pints, and Beatles 4 Sale, as well as local artists like Eric Coomer and John Salaway & The Stones River Saints. As fun as those experiences have been, his heart truly lies in serving with his home church where he was recently a part of a live worship album-Stacking Stones with Bridge Worship. When Jay is not playing some Beatles tunes, he enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs.

Q & A

1. Favorite Beatles Album: Abbey Road is definitely my favorite album by the Beatles. It was a time when Paul fell back in love with his Hofner and I love that. A close second would be Beatles 4 Sale. I love to hear their versions of classic covers.

2. Favorite Beatle: Paul McCartney (duh!) But right behind that would be George Harrison. The songs that he wrote from Abbey Road are my favorite.

3. Who are some of your musical influences: Most of my influences come from bassist because hey, it’s all about the bass! Like Sting, Dean Dinning (Toad the wet sprocket) Pino Palladino (John Mayer, The Who) and Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Vertical Horizon) and of course Paul McCartney. Learning Beatles songs has taught me more about the bass than anything.

4. Current artist you are listening to: Colony House (without a doubt my favorite band). Bridge Worship. (A project that I recently got to be a part of at my home church). John Mayer, Snarky Puppy, Chris Stapleton and of course, The Beatles.

5. Favorite food on the road: Anything Mexican or Tex-Mex. I can eat my weight in chips and salsa, Ha!
